A brief history lesson about the new Tanzania Wildlife Company Ltd. (TWC):
Tanzania Wildlife Corporation (TAWICO) was established by the Tanzanian Government to control all wildlife utilization in Tanzania. After the fall of communism and various subsequent changes around the world, the Tanzanian Government decided to privatize some of its parental organizations. In1999, TAWICO was privatized and the management and operation was taken over by a local Tanzanian hunting company. By 2005 a decision was made by the owner of TAWICO to look at an outside investor who had experience in the safari business to take over the management of the company. By this time, the equipment was in a bad state, and some of the areas had been hunted improperly. Five of these areas were known to be some of the very best in Tanzania, so the owner felt that with proper management these concessions would once again offer its hunting clients some fantastic experiences. Thanks to a significant financial commitment, and complete renovation of the management, conservation practices, and safari equipment, Tanzania Wildlife Company (TWC) was created, and is on track as a forerunner in the first-class big game and photographic safari industry. Management is geared towards long-term trophy hunting and improvement of herd health and age class structure in each area.
Tanzania Wildlife Company Ltd. owns the hunting rights to five premium concessions in Tanzania. Our northern-most area is the Lake Natron South Game Controlled Area located within Maasailand just north of Arusha and extending up to the Kenyan border; one in the Ikili area of the Rungwa Game Reserve, on the border of the Ruaha National Park in central/western Tanzania; and three within the famous and game-rich Selous Game Reserve, in the southern region of the country.
