Hunting Areas & Camps
Selous Game Reserve, South East Tanzania
The following game occurs in all 3 Selous areas of the Selous:
- Buffalo, the Selous is known for its big herds of buffalo
- Bushpig
- Small cats like, Caracal, genet, Civet, Serval and Wild Cat
- Crocodile, mainly LU4 and U3. Very few in MA1.
- Small Antelope like Dik Dik, Duiker and Suni
- Medium antelope, Bushbuck, Impala and Common Reedbuck
- Large antelope, Eland, Greater Kudu, Lichtenstein's Hartebeest, Sable and waterbuck
- Elephant
- Hippo, all three areas, the Selous is the only areas that TWC has with Hippo
- Hyena - spotted
- Leopard
- Lion
- Warthog
- Nyassa Wildebeest
- Zebra
Selous U3
- The mighty Rufiji River forms the northern boundary of this area to the east of the confluence of the Kilombero and Luwegu rivers.
- The camp is situated on the sandy banks of the Rufiji river.
- Use Madaba airstrip situated some 62 km away
- Rufiji river is very good for hunting hippo and crocodile
- Hippo sometimes found outside of water in the daytime where they can be hunted alternatively they are hunted in the water
- Crocodile can be hunted from blinds over bait or where they sun themselves on the banks in the daytime
- Flat aluminum boats with outboard engines are used to assist with croc and hippo hunting and recovering the animal
- South of river some thickets good for elephant as well as areas good for buffalo, cats and plainsgame.
Selous MA1
- Best known as Madaba this are borders the U3 area to the south.
- Camp situated on the Madaba river.
- Airstrip walking distance from camp.
- Madaba well know for good quality elephant and big buffalo population.
- Madaba has big open areas where lots of plainsgame can be found.
- Advantage of the proximity of U3 is that big groups can hunt from the Madaba camp and utilize both areas as to not have to many people hunting in the same area at the same time.
- Some hippo occur in pans in this area but no crocodile.
Selous LU 4
- This area is situated further east of MA1 and U3.
- The Luwegu river forms the eastern boundary of this area.
- Like U3 the Luwegu river offers excellent crocodile and hippo hunting.
- An Aluminum boats with outboard motor available for assisting in hunting as well as recovering hunted croc and hippo
- Camp situated on the banks of the Luwegu river
- Area more mountainous than U3 and MA1 which makes driving around spotting game more difficult but which lends itself more to walking safaris

Rungwa Game Reserve
The following game occurs in the Rungwa Game Reserve:
- Buffalo
- Bushpig
- Small cats like, Caracal, genet, Civet, Serval and Wild Cat
- Small Antelope like Dik Dik, Duiker, Klipspringer and Oribi.
- Medium antelope, Bushbuck, Impala and Common Reedbuck
- Large antelope, Eland, Greater Kudu, Lichtenstein's Hartebeest, Sable and Roan
- Leopard
- Lion
- Warthog
- Zebra
Rungwa Ikili
- Rungwa Game Reserve is situated to the north of Ruaha National Park.
- Ikili camp situated on the bank of the Makwasa River
- Makwasa airstrip walking distance from camp
- Rungwa known for its exceptional quality buffalo and lion
Lake Natron Game Control Area
The following species can be hunted in Maasailand:
- Buffalo
- Small antelope; Dik Dik, Duiker, Harvey's Red Duiker, Klipspringer and Steenbuck.
- Medium size antelope; Maasai Bushbuck and Impala.
- East African species; Gerenuk, Lesser Kudu, Fringe eared Oryx, Thompson's, Grant's and very seldom Robert's Gazelle.
- Leopard
- White bearded Wildebeest
- Zebra
Lake Natron South
- Lake Natron is situated in East Africa's Rift Valley bordering Kenya to the North.
- Prominent features of this area are the numerous hills and mountains formed by extinct volcanoes
- Oldonyo Lengai the Maasai people's "Mountain of God" is the only active volcano in East Africa and has erupted in 1966, 1983 and again in April 2006.
- The Rift Valley is known for its open plains and big numbers of plains game species.
- To the east of Lake Natron in the acacia woodland and rolling hills you find Gerenuk and Lesser Kudu.
- Mount Kitumbeini in the centre of the area provides Buffalo hunts for the adventures at high altitude. Tanzania Adventures Inc. contracts the Maasai and their donkeys to transport a fly camp to the summit of the mountain from where buffalo can be hunted at the edge of the rain forest early morning and late afternoon. The rain forest on the summits of these mountains also offer some exceptionally big leopard.
